Past Summits

The International Lubricant Recycling Summit builds on a growing global conversation that began in Ecuador in 2022. Since then, leaders from across the lubricant recycling sector have come together to exchange ideas, share proven approaches and explore solutions to common challenges.

Each gathering has strengthened an international network committed to improving the responsible management of used lubricants and related materials around the world.

2022 | Guayaquil, Ecuador

Where the Conversation Began

The first international gathering took place in Guayaquil, Ecuador, bringing together organizations from across Latin America, North America and Europe to explore circular economy models for the responsible management of used lubricating oil and its packaging.

Hosted by APEL/RECOIL, the event created an opportunity for participants to share experiences, technologies and best practices from their respective countries. Representatives from 13 countries participated, culminating in a shared commitment to work toward a more sustainable lubricant sector.

The conversations and relationships established in Ecuador laid the foundation for continued international collaboration and future gatherings.

2024 | Coronado, California

Bringing the Used Oil World Together

International collaboration took another step forward in 2024 with the launch of International Day, held alongside the NORA Annual Conference & Trade Show in Coronado, California.

Representatives from 17 countries came together for a full day dedicated to international used oil management. Speakers from North America, Latin America and Europe shared perspectives on collection and processing, regulatory approaches, market conditions, technology and emerging opportunities.

The event demonstrated the value of bringing different systems and experiences into the same room and established International Day as a forum for ongoing knowledge exchange and collaboration across the global lubricant recycling community.

2025 | Aventura, Florida

Expanding the Global Dialogue

International Day returned in 2025, held alongside the ENFINITE Annual Conference & Trade Show in Aventura, Florida.

Building on the momentum of 2024, the program brought the international used oil community together again to share progress, compare approaches and strengthen connections across markets.

The agenda included a keynote on global sustainability and Extended Producer Responsibility, an overview of the global lubricant recycling landscape, updates from countries represented at the previous gathering, and perspectives from emerging and established recycling systems around the world.

The continued growth of the event helped set the stage for its next evolution: the International Lubricant Recycling Summit.
